AC Rinsing, a talented filmmaker from Ringui village in Ukhrul district, has been selected to represent Manipur at the esteemed 2024 Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea. The festival runs from October 2 to 11, and Rinsing’s debut film, Samkhok, has been nominated by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for its vivid portrayal of Tangkhul Naga culture and traditions.
Samkhok tells the poignant story of a clan chief and his family as they prepare for the Maran Kasa, a significant cultural event known as the Feast of Merit. Amid this tradition, the chief grapples with personal grief and the desire for vengeance following the tragic death of his son. The film explores intricate familial relationships, community rituals, and the deep bond between humans and nature, offering a rare glimpse into the cultural identity of the Tangkhul Nagas before the arrival of Christianity.
Produced by Miwurlung Production in collaboration with NEFEC, the film’s cinematography has been done by Sorenzan Vashum and is written by Kahorrei AC. Rinsing’s inclusion in BIFF is a remarkable achievement, shining a spotlight on the unique heritage of the Tangkhul people and elevating Manipur’s presence on the global stage.
