Manipur Doctor Attacked at Home, Family Threatened

In response, hundreds of Khangabok residents gathered early this morning, blocking National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh Road) in protest.
A doctor in Manipur’s Thoubal District was attacked at his home and his family was threatened with a hand grenade. The incident happened late last night.
A group of seven armed miscreants broke into the home of Dr. Laishram Somen, owner of Sur Hospital, attacked him and his family. The attackers took away four mobile phones. and left behind the live hand grenade.
As soon as the attackers fled, the family called the police who defused the grenade.
An FIR has been filed, and authorities have launched an investigation. Although the motive remains unclear, sources suggest the break-in might have been for ransom.
In response, hundreds of Khangabok residents gathered early this morning, blocking National Highway 102 (Imphal-Moreh Road) in protest. Police personnel diverted traffic to alternative routes to accommodate travelers. A large sit-in was held at Khangabok Bazar, where residents, including a prominent female community leader, condemned the attack.
“We cannot tolerate such threats against someone who serves our community,” she said, urging authorities to ensure that such incidents are not repeated. She called for the return of the stolen phones and demanded justice, pressing the government to take immediate action against the armed intruders.
