Manipur: Detained journalists released by police

The Manipur police have released the two journalists of the online news portal ‘Frontier Manipur’, who were detained under alleged charges of sedition over the publication of an article.

The release came after representatives of the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) called on Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday morning.

The two journalists were released by the police after the duo submitted an apology letter to the authorities. A copy of the letter was also submitted to Chief Minister N Biren by the representatives of the EGM and AMWJU.

Paojel Chaoba and Dhiren Sadokpam, who are the executive editors of the web portal were arrested on Sunday. The duo was charged under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act of the Indian Penal Code.
