In an explosive allegation, the Manipur Congress has claimed that funds to the tune of Rupees 300 crore meant for the construction of roads and bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram

In an explosive allegation, the Manipur Congress has claimed that funds to the tune of Rupees 300 crore meant for the construction of roads and bridges under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) in 3 hill districts of Manipur have allegedly been misappropriated.

The scam was exposed by Manipur Congress during a press meet held yesterday at Congress Bhawan.

Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, while producing a set of documents in front of the media persons, pointed out that there was no work execution despite funds having been sanctioned in 2017-18 for several road constructions works in Churachandpur, Tamenglong and Chandel districts.

As per the document made available to the media, there was zero progress for certain roads in Churachandpur, Chandel, Tamenglong districts among other irregularities in work programs.

The Congress party alleged that apart from contractors, officials including Chief Engineer and SO might have been involved in the scam since funds cannot be sanctioned without their approval.

The party drew the attention of the government to properly investigate the matter by registering a case and handing over the same to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the interest of the public.
