Chief Minister Biren Singh added the Government is committed to ensure the smooth and efficient transportation of essential resources on the National Highways.

Despite frequent blockades and interruptions on the National Highway 37 also known as the Imphal-Jiribam Highway, which is considered the second lifeline of Manipur, Chief Minister Biren Singh has assured to ensure smooth transportation of essential resources on the National Highways.

Taking to X (Formerly known as Twitter), Chief Minister Biren Singh shared that he had a meeting with the representatives of Consortium of Manipur Petroleum Products Transporter Fraternity, Retail Outlet Dealers, LPG (Liquefied petroleum gas) Distributors, and Drivers Association at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The Chief Minister added that, it has been unanimously agreed upon, to commence the movement of petroleum products and tankers along NH 37 immediately.

He added the Government is committed to ensure the smooth and efficient transportation of essential resources on the National Highways.

It needs to be mentioned here that, time and again oil tankers plying through the highway have been repeatedly targeted by armed groups.

On April 16, at least one person was injured as armed men allegedly targeted fuel tankers in Manipur’s Tamenglong district. As many as four fuel tankers were hit in the firing that happened near Keimei village on NH-37 which connects Imphal with Silchar.

The convoy of loaded oil and LPG tankers was returning to Imphal under the escort of security personnel when the ambush occurred.
