Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated the Art and Culture building and an Open Gym at Manipur University today. He also laid the foundation stones for a 33/11 KVA Substation and a swimming pool within the university campus.
Addressing the gathering at the Manipur University Auditorium, CM Singh emphasised the importance of fitness in combating modern sedentary lifestyles. He underscored the role of educational institutions in shaping future leaders and assured that the swimming pool’s construction would be completed within a year.
Reflecting on past events, he recalled attending a function at the same auditorium in May 2023 alongside the Vice President of India when violence erupted in the state. He expressed his hope for peace and urged universities to facilitate discussions among faculty, researchers, and students to understand ongoing conflicts better. He also called for seminars and legal awareness camps to address border fencing and other public concerns.
Earlier in the day, CM Singh laid the foundation stone for multi-storied government quarters at Langol Housing Complex, Imphal West. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to balanced development across both hill and valley regions since 2017. Despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and recent conflicts, the government has focused on key infrastructure projects.
The new multi-storied government housing will be a G+7 structure, reflecting a strategic shift towards vertical expansion for optimal land use. Similar high-rise government quarters, featuring 13 buildings, are also under construction in New Checkon.
Additionally, CM Singh highlighted plans to rejuvenate Lamphalpat into a recreational spot. He stressed the importance of urban planning, cleanliness, and proper drainage management. The events showcased the government’s unwavering commitment to infrastructure development, education, and urban growth despite prevailing challenges.
