Manipur CM flags off 12 GPS-enabled vehicles for highway patrol

In a significant step to heighten security along the highways and the border areas in Manipur, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today flagged off 12 GPS-enabled vehicles for Highway Patrol at Darbar Hall of the Chief Minister’s secretariat in Imphal.

The 12 patrol vehicles will operate along the highways in five districts, including Tamenglong, Noney, Kangpokpi, Senapati, and Tengnoupal. With this, the state now has 22 GPS-enabled highway patrol vehicles. 10 of which were launched earlier in May and June.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Biren Singh said the patrol vehicles would help in keeping a strict vigil along the highways. He added that the move will help to reduce crimes and extortions committed by miscreants against truckers and ordinary people.

The Chief Minister went on to announce that construction of 34 police outposts along the Indo-Myanmar border, starting from Behiang in Churachandpur to Jessami in Ukhrul district, has commenced after approval from the Union Home Ministry.

He also stated that increased police presence along border areas will aid in the reduction of illegal trafficking and immigrant infiltration.
