Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Friday announced that the plan to send new recruits of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) to Assam for training by road has been cancelled.
The decision was apparently made just after the families and relatives of the recruits demonstrated, near the main gate of the Manipur Police Training College at Pangei in Imphal East district.
Taking to social media, CM Singh said, “For now, the plan to send new recruits of the 10th and 11th IRB to Assam by road has been cancelled.”
“A different plan will be developed shortly”, he added.
According to reports, earlier, the newly recruited soldiers from the 10th and 11th Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) have requested the appropriate authorities to arrange for the training program to be held at the regular Manipur Police Training College in Pangei instead of in Assam or any other location outside of Manipur.
The candidates stated that sending them for training outside of Manipur amid the present circumstances will put them, especially those from the valley, under extreme pressure.
They have also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N Biren in this regard.
