At least 5 police personnel, including the Additional SP of Imphal West Lamabam Amarjit and a local were injured in a blast that rocked Imphal on Tuesday morning.
The blast took place at around 9 am in the Thangal Bazaar locality. The blast is suspected to be an IED explosion.
The blast occurred when the police officials were waiting for the bomb disposal squad, after the IED was detected earlier in the morning.
The injured persons have been shifted to the Raj Medicity Hospital in Imphal, where they are currently undergoing treatment. The condition of Assistant Sub Inspector of City Police N Ibotoma Singh is stated to be serious.
Meanwhile, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh visited the blast site at Thangal Bazaar and took stock of the situation.

The police have started an investigation into the matter and the area has been cordoned off. A team of forensic experts also carried out a preliminary investigation at the blast site.
No group or individual have taken responsibility for the blast yet. Notably this is the 2nd blast in a span of less than 36 hours. On November 2nd, at least 3 BSF personnel were injured in a similar bomb blast.
Meanwhile, the Manipur Government has announced a cash reward of Rs 1 lakh for any individual who will provide information leading to the arrest of the culprits involved in both the bomb blasts in Imphal.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
