Manipur: Armed miscreants try to abduct 2 police personnel

Even as Manipur Police maintained that situation in most districts of Manipur has been normal in the last 24 hours, suspected armed miscreants tried to abduct two police personnel today.
The two police personnel were in plain clothes and were on way to buy essentials including medicine when the miscreants travelling in an auto tried to abduct them.
The incident took place between Moreh Gate No 2 and Nepali Basti diversion point. “After a brief scuffle, the police personnel escaped to Moreh Police Station. The suspected armed miscreants also escaped from the area after firing 2-3 rounds in the air,” a Manipur Police press release issued today evening said.
District Police Tengnoupal and Central Forces conducted search operation in the area but could not nab the miscreants as they were swift enough to flee from the area, the release further said.
The Manipur Police said that though situation in most districts has been normal, situation continues to be tense in some places with sporadic incidents of firing and gathering of unruly mob being reported in the last 24 hours.
About 126 checkpoints have been put up in different districts of Manipur across the hill and valley areas and police has detained 447 persons in connection with several violations.
“Movement of essential items is ensured along NH-37 and NH-2. Strict security measures are taken up all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles,” police said in the release.
The police have appealed to the people to extend all possible help in bringing normalcy in the state. Police has also shared a number – 9233522822 to share info about any rumour or regarding return of arms, ammunitions and explosives.
Since May 3, close to 200 people have died and several thousands have been displaced because of the violence that has ripped the state apart.
