At least 6 people have been reportedly arrested in connection with the killing of a college student at the Heirok Assembly Constituency in the state’s Thoubal district.
In what is being seen as an incident of pre-poll violence, 20-year-old Ningthoujam Rohit was shot dead by unidentified masked miscreants in Heirok on the 21st of December.

N Rohit, who was a student of 3rd semester at Thoubal College, was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead by the Medical Officer of Raj-Medicity Hospital. Rohit’s father, 53-year-old N Premchandra, was injured in the incident.
It is to be mentioned a father and son duo was fired upon just outside their home by miscreants in the Thoubal district of Manipur on December 22. The incident that took place in Heirok killed the son, severely injuring his father.

As per initial reports, the incident happened around midnight on Tuesday, when 20-year old N Rohit and his 53-year-old father N Premchandra woke up to the sounds of firing.
Following this, Rohit reportedly rushed towards the backyard to seek the source of the firing sounds. However, unknown armed miscreants opened fire killing him. Upon hearing his son screaming, N Premchandra too rushed to the spot only to be wounded seriously by the miscreants.
