The demand for the repeal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) has intensified in Manipur. Imphal witnessed massive protests this morning as thousands took to the streets demanding the repeal of the AFSPA.
Five Imphal-based civil society organisations (CSOs) held mega protest rally urging the repeal of AFSPA, protection of human rights, and action against armed miscreants disrupting peace in the state.
Among the demonstrators were students, internally displaced persons, and members of five prominent civil society organisations. Slogans echoed through the city, urging immediate action against the Act and an end to civilian killings by terrorist groups.
The protest was jointly organised by the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association, Committee on Human Rights Manipur, and the Manipuri Students Federation.
The demonstrators also called on the Centre and state government to take swift measures to address violence and restore peace in the region. The overwhelming turnout underscored growing public discontent with prolonged militarisation and a pressing demand for justice and stability in Manipur.
