The house of the UKLF Chief in Molnoi village has also been set ablaze
At least 3 people were killed and several injured in a fierce gun battle between a Kuki rebel group, currently under truce and village volunteers in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district yesterday.
The fire fight began at around 10 in the morning when a group of village volunteers reportedly attacked cadres of UKLF, one of the Kuki rebel groups currently under Suspension of Operations.
The house of the UKLF Chief in Molnoi village has also been set ablaze, sources said.
However, there is another version that says that it was not the village volunteers who started the fight.
Source in the Suspension of Operations groups said the shootout was a result of a misunderstanding and that discussions are going on between the 2 groups to resolve the issue.
The village volunteers have accused the UKLF of hob-nobbing with a Naga rebel group and has also alleged that the UKLF has kidnapped a top village volunteers official on the 10th of July.
The village volunteers on their part are accused of abducting 3 people associated with UKLF.
Northeast Live could not independently contact the two sides but sources said the difference between the two was over trade and taxation in the area in the vicinity of Pallel.
