Manipur: 3-day long traditional plantation festival ‘Paoki’ ends in Senapati district

The 3-day traditional paddy cultivation festival called ‘Paoki’ ended on Friday at Purul village in Senapati district. The event was organised by the Purul Youth & Students Organization and sponsored by the Tourism department, Govt of Manipur. Notably, Purul village is believed to be the first to plant rice in the region. The village sees the highest footfall of tourists during the festival. On the first day, every household prepared tribal delicacies for friends and relatives who arrived in the village for the festival. Guests were treated lavishly during the festival leaving a lasting impression of the hospitality of the people of Purul. The second day was marked by various activities including gathering paddy saplings for the day of transplantation. At night, Naga wrestling competition took place in the courtyard of the village chief where youths from neighboring villages came to wrestle the host village. Interestingly, the wrestling lasted till the dawn of a new day.
