Manipur: 10-day Imphal Valley Shutdown Called Off

First Published: 10th June, 2025 17:49 IST

The shutdown, which began on June 7, was held by Arambai Tengol to protest the arrest of five of its members.

The 10-day shutdown in Imphal Valley has been officially called off, citing the severe grievances and hardships faced by the general public. The decision comes at a time when the state is grappling with the aftermath of devastating flash floods, further compounding daily life challenges.

Despite the suspension of the bandh, curfew orders issued by the district administrations in the five Valley districts remain in place, continuing to disrupt routine life. Until Today morning, several parts of the state still observed the shutdown, with shops, markets, banks, and government offices staying closed.

Addressing the media, Robin Mangang, PRO of Arambai Tengol, announced that the group had decided to lift the shutdown with immediate effect. He said the public’s suffering and the ongoing flood situation prompted the decision.

However, he reiterated the group’s demand for the unconditional release of Kanan Singh and urged citizens to continue protests within democratic norms.

The shutdown, which began on June 7, was held by Arambai Tengol to protest the arrest of five of its members. While four have been released by Manipur Police, one remains in CBI custody.

Arambai Tengol also claimed it had apprehended 14 individuals allegedly trying to disrupt the peaceful nature of the movement, urging people to uphold peace and democracy.
