Manik Saha was today elected as the Legislature Party leader by the MLAs this evening paving the way for his second consecutive term as the next Chief Minister of Tripura. He will take oath in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a mega ceremony to be held on March 8.
Manik Saha is set to continue as the Tripura Chief Minister, although reports were doing rounds that a section of the newly elected MLAs were in favour of replacing him with Union minister Pratima Bhoumik, who has been elected as an MLA from Dhanpur in the just concluded elections.
Manik Saha won from the Town Bordowali seat by defeating Asish Kumar Saha of the Congress by a margin of 1257 votes.
It may be mentioned that the BJP had a sweeping victory in the elections by winning 32 seats alone crossing the majority mark of 31; while, it’s alliance partner the IPFT could manage to win only 1 seat.
