Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reviewed the progress of work of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project in Guwahati today.

The project which was approved last year at a cost of Rs 370 crore, aims to develop a 1.3 km long stretch of the Brahmaputra Riverfront with modern facilities like walkway, cycle track, jogging track, viewpoint, interactive ponds, fountains among others for visitors and residents of Guwahati.

The riverfront is located on the south bank of the Brahmaputra River and part of the central area of Guwahati city.

The old SP Bungalow campus, adjacent to the Brahmaputra River Heritage Centre at Pan Bazar, is also being developed as part of the Brahmaputra Riverfront Development Project.

Reviewing the progress of work, CM Sarma gave several directions to the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority or GMDA officials and also instructed them to expedite the work.

Taking to Twitter, CM Sarma said that he also asked officials to ensure there is adequate open and recreational space available for city dwellers as well as domestic and foreign tourists to give them a feel of the mesmerising beauty of the mighty Brahmaputra and the rich art, culture and heritage of Assam. GMDA CEO Kausar Jamil Hillaly was also present on the occasion.
