Around 650 militants belonging to an assortment of rebel groups will lay down arms and join the mainstream on January 23.
The rebels, who are set to surrender, are from groups including the National Liberation Front of Bengalis or NLFB, Adivasi Dragon Force, a Santhal outfit and a Rabha militant group.
The largest number of surrender numbering more than 300 is from the NLFB, followed by around 180 from the Adivasi Dragon Force. Some rebels from the ULFA (Independent) and the NDFB (R) who had not come over ground earlier will also lay down arms.
The ceremony is scheduled to be held in Guwahati in presence of top Assam government leaders and top brass of the Assam Police.
It may be mentioned that the development comes close to the heels of the NDFB anti-talks faction deciding to go for a fresh peace agreement with the Government of India.
