LS polls: Stage set for 1st phase of polling in region

With less than 24 hours left for the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha polls, hectic preparations are underway in every state with voters all set to exercise their franchise.

Heavy security arrangements have been put in place and polling parties in most of the states have started heading for their respective polling stations from the district headquarters.

A special surveillance system has been put in place as vehicles carrying the EVM machines have been equipped with GPS to track every activity.

Besides, JCBs and other equipment have also been put on standby to deal with any situation arising as a result of inclement weather.

Elaborate arrangements are being put in place for smooth conduct of the elections in Meghalaya, as both Lok Sabha seats from the state are going to polls on Thursday.

It may be mentioned that Assembly elections are also being held in the two states of Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh on April 11 along with the Lok Sabha polls.

700 vehicles have been requisitioned and adequate security forces have been deployed at all polling stations in Kohima.

Election to the lone Mizoram Lok Sabha seat will be held on Thursday and 141 polling parties on Tuesday left for far-flung polling stations from respective district headquarters.

While, five Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Lakhimpur, Tezpur and Koliabor will go to polls tomorrow, top party leaders from the state will carry on campaigning in other parts of the state which are due to face polling in the second phase.
