LS polls 2024: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma confident of BJP winning 11 seats

The Opposition including the Congress might have united to fight the coming Lok Sabha elections together, but the BJP is sure of winning 11 of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.

A day after 13 political parties huddled in Guwahati and decided to counter the Saffron Party in the Parliamentary elections, CM Sarma has exuded confidence that his party will score in double digits in the elections. Chief Minister Sarma is certain that the BJP will win 11 seats.

Speaking to newspersons on the sidelines of the inauguration of the new Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Guwahati on Friday, CM Sarma said, “In Assam 11.5 seats are with us, we have no issues if others divide the rest of 2.5 seats among themselves. We have no right in the 2.5 seats, I have given it to the Opposition. I am 100 percent sure that we will get 11.5 seats. So whoever unites or divides over 2.5 seats, it is their own matter, I have nothing to say about that.”

Speaking regarding a possible alliance between Congress and AIUDF, the Chief Minister said that the two parties are brothers in arms and irrespective of what they claim, they will come together once the election dates get closer.

Chief Minister Sarma said, “Elections are coming. There will be competition between the Congress and the AIUDF over these 2.5 seats. There will be mud slinging between them, they will be friends sometime and fight too, so it will not be appropriate for us to intervene in a fight between two brothers. It will be better if we stay away. No one can guarantee that they will not unite tomorrow even if they are fighting today. It will be good if we concentrate on working for the benefit of the people.”

On Thursday, at least 13 opposition political parties came together and decided to project a common candidate in each constituency in next year’s Parliament elections to counter the BJP.

The opposition parties came together under the banner of United Opposition Forum (UOF), a group which is part of the INDIA bloc formed to challenge the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Parliament elections.

However, Badruddin Ajmal-led AIUDF is not a part of UOF.
