Lovlina Borgohain’s Quest For An Olympics Gold Begins Today With Her Bout Against Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad

Lovlina Borgohain, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist, will face Norwegian boxer Sunniva Hofstad in her opening match at the Paris Olympics in the women’s 75 kg weight division.

The much-anticipated match in the Round of 16 will begin at 3:50 PM (IST). Indian fans will be keeping their fingers crossed, praying that she defeats her Norweigan opponent with ease and inches closer towards a second olympc medal.

However, Lovlina’s road to the gold medal will be challenging, as Sunniva Hofstad will be a tough opponent for Borgohain to beat.

Who is Sunniva Hofstad, Lovlina’s Opponent Today

Sunniva Hofstad is a Norwegian boxer, who qualified for the Paris Olympics 2024 riding high on three consecutive victories over three boxers in the World Olympic Boxing Qualifier in March 2024.

She is also the 2022 junior world champion and 2021 and 2022 European junior champions.

Moreover, she also bagged a gold medal in the Tammer Tournament 2023.

This will be the first time Sunniva Hofstad will be playing against Lovlina Borgohain.

Hofstad has won several gold and silver medals in the past two years, and she is considered to be a strong medal contender at Paris 2024.

Lovlina’s Bag of Medals So Far

Boxing experts consider Lovlina Borgohain, the girl from Baramukhia village near Barpathar in the Golaghat district of Assam as a strong Gold Medal contender, whose game is at the top.

Lovlina Borgohain’s medal closet includes a gold medal winner at 2023 World Championships and bronze medals at the 2018 and 2019 editions of World Championships.

She is also a bronze medal winner at the 2022 Asian Games, gold medallist at 2022 Asian Championships and bronze medallist at the 2017 and 2021 editions of the competition.

If Lovlina, the first Olympics medal winner from Assam, beats Hofstad in her opening match today, she could face China’s Li Qian in the quarter-finals; who is going to be another formidable opponent for the Tokyo Olympics bronze medallist.

Li Qian has beaten the eighth-seeded Lovlina Borgohain in the Asian Games gold medal match in 2022.
