Amid the ongoing tensions with Pakistan, a mythical symbol of divine power has taken on a modern form in India. The mythical Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu has returned as a potent weapon for India.
In the dead of night, as Pakistani drones and missiles threatened Indian skies, the Indian military responded not just with firepower but with precision, speed, and symbolism.
The S-400 air defence system, often called one of the most advanced in the world, roared to life drawing comparisons to the mythic Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu, the celestial weapon said to destroy evil and restore cosmic order.
The S-400 has become an asset in India’s arsenal against Pakistan.
In Hindu mythology, the Sudarshan Chakra is a powerful, spinning, disc-like weapon wielded by Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna. Known for its razor-sharp edges and celestial precision, it represents the destruction of evil, the preservation of righteousness, and the cyclical nature of the cosmos.
Su means auspicious and darshan means vision. The Sudarshana Chakra is a symbol of Lord Vishnu’s power to preserve, protect, and restore order in the universe. It represents the eternal cycle of life and death, and its constant motion reflects the ever-changing nature of the cosmos.
On the other hand, the S-400 has been named as Sudarshan Chakra made its debut on the intervening night of May 7 to 8 to intercept aerial threat from Pakistan.
Built by Russia’s Almaz-Antey, the key features of the S-400 include multi-target engagement, which means it can simultaneously engage up to 36 targets using its advanced radar and missile systems, making it highly effective in complex air defence scenarios. It can detect and engage targets at distances of up to 400 kilometers with its most advanced missiles, making it effective against long-range threats. It can be activated within five minutes, is “twice as effective as the previous Russian air defence systems” and has the flexibility to be “integrated into the existing and future air defence units of the air force, army and navy”.
The S-400 has three components — Missile launchers, a powerful radar and a command centre. It can hit aircraft, cruise missiles and even fast-moving intermediate-range ballistic missiles.
The S-400 can engage almost all types of modern warplanes. Its radar can track targets up to 600 km away.
In October 2018, India signed a $5 billion deal with Russia to buy five units of the S-400 air defence missile systems.
And just like the Sudarshan Chakra of Lord Vishnu, the S-400 is today a potent weapon to destroy the evil of Pakistan and ensure that righteousness always prevails in this world.
