The voting took place amid noisy scenes with the opposition terming the Bill unconstitutional. Post the voting, Union Home Minister Amit Shah re-introduced the Bill.
The Lok Sabha witnessed a war of words between Home Minister Amit Shah and the opposition, with Shah insisting that the bill was not even 0.001% against the minorities of the country.
The bill will be taken up for voting in the house later today. The bill, once passed by the lower house, is expected to be tabled in Rajya Sabha on Dec 11.
Earlier, the Congress opposed the introduction of the bill terming it unconstitutional and violation of several articles that guarantee equality to Indian citizens.
Meanwhile, vehement protests by various groups and organisations continue across Assam with the AASU, the AJYCP, and other student bodies upping the ante and staging protest rallies.
