Lex Fridman Fasted for Two Days: Podcaster and AI scientist Lex Fridman revealed that he fasted for two days before interviewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Fridman, known for his deep and thoughtful conversations, shared that he ate no food and drank only water for nearly 45 hours to prepare for the interview.
“I am fasting right now. It has been almost two days 45 hours without food, just water. I did this to get into the right mindset and spiritual level in honour of this conversation,” Fridman said, drawing a laugh from PM Modi as they sat down for a chat that lasted over three hours.
Fridman asked PM Modi about his own fasting habits and how he manages to fast for several days at a time. PM Modi responded with a smile, saying, “I am truly pleasantly surprised and honoured that you are fasting. Even more so because it feels like you are fasting as a tribute of respect for me.”
PM Modi on the Power of Fasting
PM Modi explained how fasting helps him maintain balance and discipline in life. “Fasting brings the inner and outer self to balance. When you fast, your senses become highly sensitive, extra sharp, and aware. It also accelerates your thinking process,” the prime minister said.
He shared that before starting a fast, he prepares his body with Ayurvedic practices and yoga to reset himself. Inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, PM Modi said he has been fasting regularly for 50 to 55 years. For four to five months every year, he eats only one meal a day.
The prime minister also recalled an incident when he was fasting during bilateral talks with then US President Barack Obama. “I turned down a formal dinner because I was fasting. When I met him the next time, he invited me to lunch and told me to eat twice as much to make up for the last time,” Modi said with a laugh.
