Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has said that the overall law and order scenario in the state has been largely peaceful.
The Meghalaya CM made the statement after holding a crucial meeting at the police headquarters in Shillong yesterday with the top police personnel of the state.
Talking on the matter, the CM said that no incident related to militancy has taken place in the state recently and the police and law enforcement forces are keeping an eagle’s eye over the state.
The Meghalaya CM also stated that they are going to start giving out two awards for distinguished service by police personnel in the state.
He said that one would be the Chief Minister’s Police Medal and the other would be the Chief Minister’s Disaster Response Medal. Sangma further asserted these awards would be given yearly to honor the distinguished service rendered by the police personnel and other departments in times of need.
CM Sangma also said that there is a need for additional manpower in the police force. For this, the government would be running a recruitment drive soon for the police department and a special focus would be put on recruiting traffic police personnel.
CM Sangma assured that cranes and ambulances would be specially allotted to certain areas in the state which have been marked as disaster-prone. He said that a certain number of cranes and ambulances would be provided to such places to be used just in case of any emergency situation.
