The last rites of iconic Bollywood actor Sridevi will be performed in Mumbai today after her mortal remains were brought back from Dubai where she died Saturday night in what authorities of the emirates said was due to accidental drowning.
Family members, including filmmaker husband Boney Kapoor and stepson Arjun Kapoor, brought Sridevi’s mortal remains to her Lokhandwala residence in Anil Ambani’s private jet last night.
The cremation is expected to take place around 3:30 in the afternoon. Meanwhile, was kept at the Celebration Sports Club in Mumbai since 9.30 am to around 12.30 pm before being taken for the funeral.
Earlier, the Kapoor family said in a statement that her last journey will begin at 2 pm from Celebration Sports Club to the Vile Parle Crematorium where the last rites will be performed.
Several Bollywood personalities including Shah Rukh Khan, his wife Gauri, Tamil superstars Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan, actor Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, Tabu, Rekha, Farah Khan, Javed Akhtar and Shabana Azmi, called on the Kapoor family after the body arrived in Mumbai last night.
As the ambulance carrying the mortal remains entered her residence, fans gathered for a glimpse of their favourite actor. Hundreds and thousands of fans gathered outside her Green Acres residence even after midnight, many of them in tears as they are still trying to come to terms with the unexpected demise of the country’s first female superstar.
Earlier on Tuesday, the National Editor of Gulf News, Bobby Naqvi spoke exclusively to Northeast Live sharing the details concerning the death of the celebrated actress.
