In the largest ever recruitment exercise in the state, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma distributed 29,701 appointment letters in a ceremony at the Sarusajai Sports Complex in Guwahati on Friday.
Of the 29,701 appointments, 16,484 are teachers and non-teaching staffs in schools, junior colleges and colleges whose services have been provincialised. The remaining 12,217 (TET qualified) are fresh appointments.
A total of 4,260 educational institutes have been provincialised to improve the quality of education in the state.
Talking to media persons, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “During the term of our government, we have crossed the 70 thousand-mark in appointment in the education department alone. Today we have handed over appointment letters to 29,701 teachers including provincialisation and new recruitment.”
Sarma stated that in the last five years, the education department has been turned into a department free from problems.
“In the next five years, the department will be able to concentrate on providing quality education,” he added.
The BJP-led government in Assam has appointed 71,765 teachers during its tenure.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
