Lakhmen Rymbui condmens killing of labourer from Assam in Meghalaya, promises action

Meghalaya Home Minister Lakhmen Rymbui on Friday reacting to the attack on migrant laborers from Assam, assured that the attack on the construction workers that led to the death of one laborer will be brought to justice.

Rymbui further added that soon after the incident, police sprung into action and nabbed 5 perpetrators involved in the incident in a matter of two days.

Terming the incident as shameful, Rymbui warned people against taking the law into their own hands else the government will deal with such incidents firmly.

A labourer was killed and seven others were injured when a group of 15-20 masked men armed with knives and tools attacked them at the construction site of St. Xavier’s College campus on Wednesday night.

The college has also been closed for an indefinite period in view of the attack.

Meanwhile, State PHE Minister and Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar condemning the attack said that such incidents hamper the tourism potential of Mawkyrwat. He assured the people that justice will be served as per the law.

Highlighting that the area needs good schools and has potential for tourism to grow, the minister appealed to the people to be friendly and to resort to dialogue if there are any issues rather than taking law into their hands.
