The protests by the members of several Koch Rajbongshi organisations demanding ST status has turned violent compelling the security forces to resort to firing and lathi charge.
The situation spiraled out of control after a section of the irate protesters vandalised a digital satellite news gathering vehicle of our group channel News Live.
The protesters also took to violence while blocking the railway tracks at the Soutara railway station near Gossaigaon in Assam.
Protesters gathered on the railway track this morning at 6 am and shouted slogans against the government demanding Scheduled Tribe status for the Koch Rajbongshi community. The protest has affected the movement of trains.
