King Charles III is crowned

The Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby placed St. Edward’s Crown upon Charles III’s head, the most significant part of the coronation service. After crowning the King, Welby said: “God Save the King.” 

Charles succeeded his mother Queen Elizabeth when she died last September and at 74.

He has become the oldest British monarch to have the 360-year-old St Edward’s Crown placed on his head

Queen Camilla mini-coronation

Queen Camilla is receiving her own coronation — albeit in a slightly different form. She is anointed with holy oil by the Archbishop of Canterbury, but without a screen.   She is crowned with Queen Mary’s Crown, marking the first time in recent history that a new crown wasn’t made specifically for this occasion.

King Charles III coronation’s most sacred part of service, anointing completed behind curtains

The third and most sacred phase of the service, the anointing of King Charles III was completed behind curtains in the Westminster Abby on Saturday.   It began with the King and Queen kneeling at the Chairs of Estate, as the choir sang in English, Welsh, Gaelic, and Irish. The Archbishop of Canterbury led a short prayer, CNN reported.
