Assam architect Dr. Kankana Narayan Dev is among top 75 Women at Indian Art, Architecture, and Design Biennale

Proud moment for Assam. Dr. Kankana Narayan Dev, a distinguished architect from the state has earned her place among the 75 eminent women architects in India.

Some of her works of prefabricated modular pucca bamboo houses, along with other products are currently on display in the exhibition at the ‘India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale’ being held at Red Fort in New Delhi.

This feat serves as a testimony of her outstanding skills and tireless commitment to the architectural arts.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Kankana shared her experience at the grand stage and said, ” It is a great privilege that the Council of Architecture has recognised my work and recommended it for the Biennale.”

Who is Dr. Kankana Narayan Dev?

Kankana Narayan Dev is a Humanitarian Architect and Researcher with a passion for sustainable and environment-friendly design.

She graduated from Manipal University with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Master of Architecture in Urban Design.

She has obtained a doctorate degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati.

She worked as a Project Architect for the Assam State Disaster Management (ASDM) Training Program at Tata Institute of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2014.

Kankana was awarded the Young Architect Scholarship by Ethos in 2011 for her work.

She was also titled an “Innovator” for her Bamboo Disaster Relief Shelter Kit by the Assam Science and Technology Environment Council.

Currently, she is teaching at the Department of Design, at Tezpur University.

She also has her social firm, ‘Darrang Eco Works’ which is dedicated to creating sustainable homes and furnishings out of bamboo, or ‘green wood.’ ‘Darrang Eco Works’ was started in 2012.

India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale- 2023:

India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale, 2023 is being held from 9-15 December 2023. This will be open for public till 31 March 2024.

Organised by India’s Ministry of Culture, the ‘India Art, Architecture and Design Biennale’ aims to showcase traditional, grassroots artisans as well as contemporary designers, curators and thought leaders cutting across age, gender and genre lines.
