Prabhas-Deepika starrer latest film, the dystopian sci-fi actioner Kalki 2898 AD, is smashing the box office records, minting more than Rs 500 crores globally. Released on June 27, Kalki has amassed Rs 300 crores in the domestic box office just after four days of its release, becoming the highest grossing Indian film of 2024.
Trade analyst Ramesh Bala confirmed on X that Kalki box office worldwide collection crossed the Rs 500 crore mark.
Box Office Domination of Kalki 2898 AD
Since its release, Kalki 2898 AD has shattered numerous box office records. Kalki became the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024, within just three days of its release. The film achieved the third-highest opening for an Indian movie ever, with a global opening of Rs 191.5 crores, as per reports filed by The Indian Express. It surpassed the opening day records of hits like KGF 2, which collected Rs 159 crore worldwide, and Jawan, which earned Rs 129.10 crore globally on day one. However, RRR and Baahubali 2 continue to hold the top spots, with Rs 223 crore and Rs 217 crore, respectively, on their opening days. Since Prabhas also starred in Baahubali 2, Kalki 2898 AD becomes his second-biggest opener.
The Telugu version of Kalki 2898 AD amassed Rs 162.1 crore, while the Tamil version brought in Rs 18.3 crore, the Hindi version garnered Rs 110.5 crore, the Malayalam version collected Rs 9.7 crore, and the Kannada version earned Rs 1.8 crore by the end of the opening weekend, as per reports.
Breaking records in North America
Kalki 2898 AD has also made history by becoming the first Indian film to hit $11 million (90.2 Cr) in its first weekend in North America. The makers announced this milestone by taking to X.
