Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, reported Live Law.

Gauhati High Court has been functioning with Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh as the Acting Chief Justice since September 20, 2020, following the retirement of the previous Chief Justice Ajai Lamba.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause(1) of Article217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, to be the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office,” stated in a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Law and Justice.

Justice Dhulia, the second senior judge of the Uttarakhand High Court, enrolled as an advocate in 1986 and started practice at the Allahabad High Court.

Later, he shifted his practice to the newly created High Court of the State of Uttarakhand, at Nainital, where he was appointed as the first Chief Standing Counsel of the Government and later as Additional Advocate General, and was designated as Senior Advocate in June, 2004.

He was elevated as a permanent Judge of Uttarakhand High Court on November 01, 2008.
