Justice K. Somashekar Sworn In as Chief Justice of Manipur High Court

Born on September 15, 1963, Justice Kempaiah Somashekar began his judicial career when he was appointed as a District and Sessions Judge on 1998.

Justice Kempaiah Somashekar was sworn in as the ninth Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur today. Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office to Justice Somashekar during the swearing-in ceremony held at the Darbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal.

Justice Somashekar, who previously served as a judge at the Karnataka High Court, was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur by the President of India on May 20, 2025.

Several dignitaries attended the ceremony, including the judges of the High Court of Manipur, the Chief Secretary, the Security Advisor to the Government of Manipur, the Director General of Police, and top civil, police, military, and judicial officers. Representatives from various Bar Associations were also present at the event.

Born on September 15, 1963, Justice Kempaiah Somashekar began his judicial career when he was appointed as a District and Sessions Judge on June 17, 1998. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on November 14, 2016, and was later made a Permanent Judge on November 3, 2018.

With a long and distinguished career in the judiciary, Justice Somashekar brings a wealth of experience to his new role as Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur.
