In yet another incident of crime against journalists, a scribe from Agartala was brutally attacked by a miscreant in Tripura’s Dharmanagar.

The journalist identified as Suman Debnath was allegedly attacked by a person named Shimi Miya with a sharp knife. Shimi attacked Suman Debnath and tried to slit his throat with a sharp knife. Shimi, however failed in his attempt to kill the journalist as locals immediately rushed at the spot after hearing him scream.

Suman Debnath is meanwhile undergoing treatment at the Dharmanagar District Hospital.
The accused Shimi Miya allegedly works for oil mafia. Police have started investigation into the matter. The accused Shimi Miya is still on the run and police is looking for his whereabouts.

The victim has been working for a local cable TV Channel in Agartala. Speaking to newspersons on the incident, Suman Debnath said that just a few days back he broke a news on the prevailing menace of oil mafia in the State.

This is not the first time that a journalist in Tripura has come under attack. Last year too, two Tripura based journalists, Shantanu Bhowmick and Sudip Dutta Bhowmick lost their lives to such attacks.
