Joint Students Body holds rally to mark 100 days of unrest in Manipur

The Joint Students Body, comprising the Zomi Students’ Federation (ZSF), Kuki Students’ Organization (KSO), and Hmar Students Association (HSA), organized a rally with all the frontline workers and village defenders in Churachandpur today to highlight 100 days of unrest in Manipur.

The day was observed to pay tribute and show respect to the victims of violence.

The rally started from the public ground in Churachandpur and moved towards the Tipaimukh road.

After that, the people marched towards the site of the Wall of Remembrance, to pay their honour and respect to the fallen tribal heroes.

A one-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the fallen tribals. On their way, the marching tribal village defenders were hailed as heroes as according to a mother, it was because of them that their village and life were safe and secure.

Samuel Taithul, leader of the Joint Student Body, told Northeast Live, “The rally is organized to mark the 100 days since the ethnic cleansing, to celebrate the work our village defense forces have been able to undertake, and to mark and commemorate the sacrifices of our people who have died.”

“Thousands of untrained boys volunteered themselves to defend our village, our land, and our people. We are doing this to thank them for their contribution to our land and people. We are also doing this in remembrance and respect of the departed soul whom we have lost,” Minlal, one of the leaders of the Joint Student Body, told Northeast Live.
