Doctors from the JNIMS in Imphal went on a mass casual leave on Wednesday demanding time-scale promotion and immediate removal of Director of the institute, Dr T Bhimo.

The stir by the doctors disrupted the functioning of the JNIMS, the only state owned hospital in Manipur.

Among those who took part in the stir were the Assistant Professor and the Senior Resident & Associate Professor under the banner APSRA or Assistant Professors Senior Resident & Associate Professors to stage protest.

The agitating doctors have been demanding the implementation of Time Scale promotional rules for faculty members since January 2018.

According to them, rather than giving concession for promotion to specialist & qualified doctors for vacant posts, director T Bhimo allegedly conducted interviews for new faculty members and the process of fresh recruitment was initiated.

The doctors have also threatened to go ahead with mass resignation, if there demand for time-scale promotion is not met.

The JNIMS, which is a 700-bedded state-run hospital has a total of 25 Departments with more than 300 faculty members.
