Jaya Verma Sinha to head Railway Board; first woman to hold the post in Indian Railways’s 105 year old history

More power to women! In a significant move by the Centre, Jaya Verma Sinha has been appointed as the CEO and Chairperson of Railway Board, making her the first woman to ever hold that post in the Ministry of Railways’ 105-year-old history.
Taking to Twitter, the Indian Railway Traffic Service Association congratulated her and extended best wishes.
“Congratulations and best wishes to Ms Jaya Varma Sinha #IRTS on assuming charge as Member Operations & Business Development (ex-officio Secretary to Govt of India) Ministry of Railways,” tweeted IRTS Association.
Who is Jaya Verma Sinha?
Born on September 18, 1963, Jaya Verma Sinha’s journey through the civil services, since her induction on February 15, 1988, stands as an inspiration to her peers and an affirmation of her unwavering dedication to advancing and enriching the Indian Railways.
Former student of Allahabad University, Jaya Verma Sinha began working for the Indian Railway Traffic Services (IRTS) in 1988. She was employed by the Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway railway zones. She spent four years as the railway advisor at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Jaya Verma Sinha will take charge on September 1. She will hold the position till August 31, 2024.
