Japanese Encephalitis Claims 1 More Life In Assam; Toll Reaches 9

The deceased was a resident of Kathiatoli village under Kampur area in Nagaon district.
One more person died of Japanese Encephalitis (JE) in Guwahati on Sunday, taking the total number of deaths due to the vector-borne illness to nine.
The deceased has been identified as Tankeshwar Bora.
He was a resident of Kathiatoli village in the Kampur area of Nagaon.
As per inputs, Bora was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Guwahati for the past few days.
With the death of Bora, the death toll related to JE reached 9 in Assam within July.
Among the eight cases, one death was recorded in each in the Jorhat and Kamrup districts, three in Sivsagar district, one in Sonitpur district, and two in Dhemaji district , according to data from the state vector-borne disease control unit under the National Health Mission.
So far, more than 100 Japanese encephalitis patients have been found in various districts of the state.
Earlier, two persons, including a 12-year-old girl, have died in the last 48 hours.
Madhury Manowa (12) from Amsoi in Morigaon district died in Guwahati Medical College Hospital and Rakesh Rag Gogoi (37), a singer from Dergaon in Golaghat died during treatment at Assam Medical College.
JE is a viral brain infection that spreads through mosquito bites. The virus found in pigs and birds is passed to mosquitoes when they bite infected animals.
