The latest forensic report also states that human blood was detected on nail cuttings and hair strands of Ahmed, and on his spine, mandible and the muscles on his back.
In a major twist in the death case of Tinsukia’s Faizan Ahmed, a student of IIT Kharagpur, who was found dead in his hostel 2 years ago, new forensic reports have now indicated that the student was murdered.
A gunshot wound and a stab wound have been found on his neck, revealed a second forensic examination, which was ordered by the Calcutta High Court.
The findings are significant since the High Court is expected to hear the case next week.
According to the report prepared by court-appointed forensic expert Dr A K Gupta, Ahmed’s neck showed signs of a gunshot wound on the upper left side and a stab wound on the right.
However, these injuries were not documented by police during the initial investigation nor were they filmed during the first autopsy conducted at Midnapore Medical College in October 2022, the report added.
After Ahmed’s mother Rehana moved the High Court seeking the formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe his death, the court in May 2023 had ordered the exhumation of Ahmed’s body and a second post-mortem examination.
As per reports, the latest forensic report also states that human blood was detected on nail cuttings and hair strands of Ahmed, and on his spine, mandible and the muscles on his back.
While speaking to media, Faizan’s mother said, “Now I want the truth to be revealed. Who took my son’s life? I want justice for my son. I also appeal to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to help us to find the truth.”
“I came to know that my son’s body was kept at IIT hospital at least for two days. His corpse was then kept in his room”, she added. She further alleged that IIT authorities involved in this case.
“I could never have imagined that my boy was tortured like this. All I know is that now I don’t even feel like this could have been a student’s work,” she added.
From beginning, Faizan’s parents suspected foul play, claiming that he had been subjected to ragging on campus and expressing dissatisfaction with the police investigation and handling of the matter by the IIT authorities.
23-year-old Faizan Ahmed was a student of mechanical engineering student in IIT Kharagpur. He was found dead in a room at Lala Lajpat Rai Hostel on October 14, 2022. It was not the room allotted to him.
