The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Sunday released the first set of image captured by Chandrayaan-2, which is India’s second lunar mission.

The on board camera captured pictures of Earth which was viewed in space which was taken by L14 camera of Chandrayaan-2’s Vikram lander on August 3.

“Earth as viewed by #Chandrayaan2 LI4 Camera on August 3, 2019 17:32 UT,” the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) tweeted along with the pictures.

The Vikram Lander is a module that will enable the delivery of the Rover to the lunar surface while conducting a few experiments of its own. The rover will roll out once the lander has successfully landed at the desired spot. It’s named ‘Vikram’ to honour the late Dr Vikram Sarabhai,

The official of the Bengaluru-headquartered ISRO said, “The Chandrayaan-2 is in good health. There is no doubt about it. It is moving in the right direction.”

Chandrayaan-2 is a Rs 978-crore project, with which India hopes to soft-land of probe on Moon, while also put a satellite around it’s orbit. ISRO is aiming for a soft landing of the lander in the South Pole region of the moon where no country has gone so far.

The Chandrayaan-2 will be subjected to a series of orbit manoeuvres in the coming weeks with the rover soft landing planned on September 7.
