Fans of NorthEast United FC had to face dejection as the highlanders went down 4-2 to Bengaluru FC in its 1st match of this year’s ISL.
The rain-affected match at Bambolim Stadium saw tactical passes and chances slip by NEUFC.
The entertaining encounter between the two football clubs saw Deshorn Brown & Mathias Coureur scoring for NEUFC while Cleiton Silva, Jayesh Rane, and Prince Ibarra scored for Bengaluru FC.
NEUFC also conceded a self-goal when a lob from Bangaluru’s Ashique Kuruniyan lob rebounded off the crossbar which Mashoor Shereef, instead of clearing it, blasting it into the roof of the net.
NEUFC started aggressively at the beginning of the match but failed to maintain its momentum which Bengaluru FC capitalised upon, taking away the match from the hands of the Highlanders.
Whatever momentum that NEUFC had in the first half completely dissipated in the second half. Bengaluru FC’s captain Sunil Chhetri too managed his troops well after a ragged start following which NEUFC failed.
All in all it was a cruising victory for Bengaluru which saw it bag 3 points in its kitty. The Highlanders will have to go to the drawing board yet again under its new coach Khalid Jamil for it to bounce back in its coming match with the formidable Kerela Blasters.
