Is finding dead, live insects in restaurant-ordered food new normal? Bengaluru woman finds cockroach in her Zomato order

Is it now new normal to find live or dead insects in food ordered from restaurants? Days after a man from Bengaluru found a live snail in his salad ordered from Swiggy, now an woman from the city found a dead cockroach in her chicken fried rice ordered from Zomato.

Harshitha ordered chicken fried rice from a local restraunt ‘Tapri By The Corner’. When she opened the sealed pacakage, she was left absolutely disgusted with her order.

She took to X (formely known as Twitter) to share her terrible experience and said, “I orderd chicken fried rice in zomato from restaurent “TAPRI BY THE CORNER”. I got cockroach in my food.
Absolutely disgusted with my order! This is completely unacceptable and unhygienic. Need an immediate resolution.”

She tagged Zomato, its CEO Deepinder Goyal, and the Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India.

The food delivery platform took note of the same and replied, “That’s really unexpected, Harshitha. We can understand how you must be feeling 🙁 Could you please help us with your registered contact number/ Order ID via a private message so that we can look into this immediately?”

Recently, Dhaval Singh from the same city was also left disgusted after finding a live snail in a salad he ordered from a local restaurant via Swiggy.

He filed a complaint with the food delivery app. Swiggy called the incident ‘terrible’, however offered him a partial refund.
