Project to ensure high speed internet connectivity in the Shillong IT Park area in New Shillong
To further transform Meghalaya’s IT landscape and improve internet and mobile connectivity in the hill state, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today announced that a partnership with International Internet Gateway (IIG) project is being worked out, which will ensure reliable and high-speed internet connectivity via Bangladesh.
This initiative is expected to boost the state’s rapidly growing IT sector and enhance digital infrastructure for the state.
The Chief Minister outlined the technical details of the project, explaining that a submarine cable has already landed in Chittagong, Bangladesh, with Malaysian telecom companies, along with Bangladesh’s government and telecom agencies, overseeing its operations.
Through a collaboration with PowerGrid’s telecom wing, PowerTel, and MePTCL, the state intends to establish a direct link to the Gateway, bringing high-speed internet connectivity to the Shillong IT Park area in New Shillong.
