Along with the rest of the world, the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh observed International Day of Democracy at DK Conventional Hall in state capital Itanagar on Wednesday.
The occasion also coincided with two decades since the establishment of the state election commission.

Speaking at the event, Governor BD Mishra said that goal behind observing International day of democracy is to promote the government’s roles and the guarantee of human rights.
It may be mentioned that September 15 is celebrated as the International Day of Democracy across the globe after being established in 2007 through a resolution passed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
According to the United Nations, “International Day of Democracy provides an opportunity to review the state of democracy in the world. Democracy is as much a process as a goal, and only with the full participation of the international community, can the ideal of democracy be made into a reality.”
