Reports suggest that armed militants from Kangpokpi Hills have been utilising highly sophisticated weaponry, including bombs.
Heavy crossfire erupted between security forces and armed militants in Imphal East’s Sana Sabi. Reports indicate that the intense gun battle began around 11 a.m. on December 27, further escalating the ongoing unrest in the state.
Sana Sabi, located on the periphery of Kangpokpi, is part of a series of areas in Imphal East that border Kangpokpi District. Earlier attacks had already occurred in Sinam Kom, Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, and Sabungkhok Khunou.
On Christmas morning, armed militants from Kangpokpi Hills first targeted Sinam Kom. Later in the evening, the same groups, believed to be hiding in the hills, launched further attacks on Thamnapokpi, Yaingangpokpi, and Sabungkhok Khunou.
Despite search operations conducted by security forces, no militants were apprehended, as they managed to evade capture by swiftly moving between hilltops where security forces did not carry out full operations. Today, the militants shifted their focus to Sana Sabi, attacking the valley villages on the outskirts of Imphal East once again.
Reports suggest that armed militants from Kangpokpi Hills have been utilising highly sophisticated weaponry, including bombs, which they have targeted at security forces. The tension in the area remains high, and the situation continues to be volatile as the gun battle persists.
