In a big boost to the BJP in Tripura, the Tripura People’s Front or TPF which is a socio political NGO turned indigenous party today merged with the BJP.
TPF chief Patal Kanya Jamatia said BJP’s development agenda and push for tribal welfare prompted her to take the decision. Jamatia added that the TPF was formed in 2014 against the deprivation of the indigenous people of Tripura. However, it was convinced today that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Biplab Deb.
Jamatia also downplayed the Pradyot Debbarma led Tipra Motha’s bid to project itself as a champion of tribal people’s rights.
In fact, Jamatia also took a dig at Tipra Motha accusing its members of stopping TPF supporters from attending the BJP joining rally in Agartala.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Biplab Deb while lauding the TPF move said that it was the BJP inclusive appproach that had led to this development.
