The Omicron cases in India are fast approaching the 1000 mark.

To be more specific, India has recorded a total of 950 cases of the Omicron variant of Covid-19 across 21 states and UTs so far.

Among the total cases of Omicron, 241 people have recovered so far.
The most number of cases have been reported from Delhi with 238 cases, while

Maharashtra is in the second spot with 167 cases.

Meanwhile, With 9,195 people testing positive for coronavirus infection yesterday, India’s total tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 3,48,08,886, while the active cases increased to 77,002.

However, the daily rise in new coronavirus infections has been recorded below 15,000 for the last 62 days now.

With this, the active cases comprise 0.22 per cent of the total infections, the lowest since March 2020, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate was recorded at 98.40 per cent, the highest since March 2020.

Meanwhile, World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the more transmissible Omicron together with the currently circulating Delta variants might lead to a ‘tsunami of cases’ that could overwhelm health care systems, and again disrupt lives and livelihoods.

While WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus reiterated his concern over a recent narrative that Omicron has been causing milder or less severe diseases.

According to Mike Ryan, Executive Director of the WHO’s Health Emergencies Program, though Omicron looks like being more transmissible, has a shorter incubation period, and causes a mild disease, it is based on the largely young population that the variant has been infecting.
