Indian women cricket team’s Harleen Deol has been in the headlines since Friday night. The 23-year-old batter pulled off an outstanding effort on the field when she took a scintillating catch to dismiss England’s Amy Ellen Jones and prevented her from reaching fifty.
During the English innings, Amy Ellen Jones was playing a beautiful knock. While batting at 43, she played a shot off pacer Shikha Pandey in the 19th over. As the shot was lofted towards long-off, Deol was stationed at the boundary.
Since she was close to the ropes, she lofted the ball in the air after taking the catch. As she went outside the boundary, she popped back in, right on time while claiming the catch in the air, eventually dismissing Jones.
Her effort was applauded by all, including former Indian legend VVS Laxman. “As good a catch one will ever see on a cricket field, from Harleen Deol. Absolutely top class,” he wrote on Twitter.
Nonetheless, Deol’s effort went in vain as India ultimately lost the game by 18 runs via the Duckworth-Lewis method in a rain-marred clash. Meanwhile, with a couple of more games to go, India has a chance to bounce back.
