It took just 9 seconds for India to witness the biggest demolition in its history. The demolition of Supertech’s twin towers, which indeed was a spectacle to behold, ended the 9-year-long legal battle.

About 3,500 kg of explosives were used to raze the 100-meter tall illegal twin towers. The estimated cost for the exercise is learnt to be around Rs 20 crore.

A cloud of dust enveloped the area as the twin towers went down in just a matter of seconds. The entire country came to a standstill for those 9 seconds. Minutes after the demolition, the nearby buildings appeared to be safe .

The impact of the demolition was maximum in and around the Emerald Court and ATS Village societies. Noteworthy here is that at least 5,000 people from these areas were evacuated prior to the demolition.

Emergency services – such as fire tenders and ambulances -were deployed on the road behind the park in front of the twin towers during the demolition process. Close to 500 police and traffic personnel were deployed in and around SUpertech’s twin towers, while the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway remianed shut between 2:15 PM and 2:45 PM. A no-fly zone was also instated over the city for drones.

The demolition of the 32 storey Apex and 29 storey Ceyane towers has reportedly left behind approximately 35,000 cubic metres of debris that would take at least three months to be cleared. The go-ahead for demolishing the twin towers with explosives was given by the Supreme Court.

Meanwhile, let us listen in to to some of the first reactions after the demolition of the mighty twin towers.

Notably, the exercise was earlier supposed to start on August 21 but the court accepted the Noida Authority’s request and extended its date of demolition to August 28. The twin towers have been razed over grave violations of building norms.

The top court had said that it was a result of “nefarious complicity” between the Noida Authority and Supertech and ordered that the company shall carry out the demolition at its own expense under the supervision of the Noida Authority and an expert body like the Central Building Research Institute.
